ABOUT
Trauma Therapist and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Specialist
"Healing begins with feeling truly seen"
Taunya Hudson is a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC), Master Practicing Clinical Counsellor (MPCC), and Counselling Therapist (CT) based in Calgary, Alberta. Since 2013, she has worked with individuals and couples navigating trauma, attachment wounds, relationship challenges and life transitions. Her approach is relational, experiential and grounded in the belief that lasting change happens not simply through insight, but through lived emotional experience. Taunya holds 3 year diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology and earned her Master's level designtaion through a competency based pathway requiring extensive supervised clinical practice, peer review and demonstrated clinical competency.
More than any credential, her work has been shaped by thousands of hours sitting with clients, extensive advanced training, and an ongoing commitment to her own therapeutic and experiential growth. Prior to founding The Renewal Process, Taunya spent years developing and leading Bloom Psychedelic Therapy and Research Institute, where she built and supervised a multidisciplinary team of more than twenty practitioners. This work deepened her expertise in clinical leadership, program development, ethical implementation of emerging therapeutic modalities, and practitioner mentorship. It also reinforced a core belief that effective therapy depends not only on techniques and interventions, but on the therapist's capacity for presence, attunement, and relational depth. Today, she continues to provide training, consultation, and mentorship to clinicians across Canada, helping practitioners strengthen their clinical intuition, navigate complexity with confidence, and deepen the impact of their work.
AN OPEN NOTE
On being a whole human in this work
I'm openly queer, and I've lived inside that experience — including marriage to both genders, lived both a monogamous an ENM relationship and raising two amazing young adults through and beyond those chapters.
That lived experience gifts me a particular kind of presence when clients arrive exploring identity, orientation, non-traditional relationship structures, or the quiet complexity of belonging in more than one world. Being an open human in this work matters to me — and I'm grateful to be able to bring all of it into the room.
BEYOND THE PRACTICE
Life as the experiment
Avid Harley rider. Four-time Ironman competitor. Former backcountry guide. Deep self exploration through multiple therapeutic modalities, including multiple medicines and styles of medicine offerings (ceremonial and therapeutic).
Taunya uses her life as an experiment to deeply understand the human experience.
Taunya believes that growth requires participation.
The practices she encourages in her clients' lives — curiosity, courage, self-reflection, and willingness to move toward discomfort — are the same qualities she continues to cultivate in her own.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
Training and Certifications
A grounding in evidence-based modalities for trauma, attachment, and integration-focused therapy.
Counselling Psychology
Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC), Master Practicing Clinical Counsellor (MPCC), Counselling Therapist (CT)
I hold a 3-year diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology. I've proven my competency for a "Master's Equivalence" designation (Master Practicing Clinical Counsellor) — earned through demonstrated competency rather than a traditional academic master's program — and I am a Registered Professional Counsellor and Counselling Therapist in good standing. This pathway is deliberately rigorous: it requires supervised clinical hours, peer review, and evaluation of real-world practice. I chose it because clinical competency belongs in the room, not just on a transcript.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
75+ hours with Dr. Dick Schwartz
I've completed the IFS Institute "Circle" training, affording me the "IFS Informed Therapist" designation, plus 75+ hours of stand-alone IFS trainings — with the majority taught by Dr. Dick Schwartz himself.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Master's Level Practitioner
I have completed Basic, Enhanced, and Advanced ART training — affording me the "Master's Level" ART designation. This pathway is deliberately rigorous: it requires supervised clinical hours, peer review, and evaluation of real-world practice. I chose it because clinical competency belongs in the room, not just on a transcript.
Polyvagal Trauma Therapy
50+ hours, training with Deb Dana
I've completed over 50 hours of polyvagal trauma training, affording me the "Polyvagal Informed Treatment Therapist" designation. The majority of this training was led by Deb Dana. This pathway is deliberately rigorous: it requires supervised clinical hours, peer review, and evaluation of real-world practice. I chose it because clinical competency belongs in the room, not just on a transcript.
Gottman Couples Therapy
Levels I and II, since 2015
I've completed Gottman Levels I and II, and have been actively utilizing these interventions and the underlying theory in my clinical work since 2015.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
Couples and Individual EFT
I have completed the EFT for Couples Externship and the EFT for Individuals training.
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
ATMA-PAP, Phoenix Academy, KAT
I've completed a range of training modalities, including ATMA-PAP, KAT psychopharmacology and psychedelic support training, Phoenix Academy's experiential training, and the Psychedelic Somatic Facilitator Training Certificate — all grounded in a somatic and trauma-informed lens.
Numa Breathwork
Levels 1, 2 and 4, Hakomi and Somatic Experiencing
I've completed Levels 1, 2 and 4, specific to learning therapeutic modalities and interventions from Hakomi and Somatic Experiencing, birth territory and existential experiences.
Attachment Focused Therapy
ATMA-PAP, Phoenix Academy, KAT
I've trained with Gordon Neufeld in Making Sense of Anxiety and the Science of Emotions, deepening my work in attachment-focused therapy across the lifespan.
Yoga Teacher Training
Levels 2 and 4, Hakomi and Somatic Experiencing
200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training — a foundation that continues to inform how I think about breath, embodiment, and nervous-system care in therapeutic work.
